President Obama wants judges who are more willing to bring their personal experience and empathy to the court over a deep understanding and respect for the constitution and the intent of its authors.

It is exactly these qualities, personal experience (read this as prejudice) and empathy, (read this also as prejudice) from which great judges must divorce themselves. The worst decisions ever made in the Supreme Court were those in which the judges carried the baggage and bigotries of their personal experience to the bench.
