Men afflicted with a bald patch have at last got something to cheer about. US scientists are confident they have come up with a cure for hair loss after creating new hair cells on mice.

The news will be particularly celebrated by those in the public eye, among them Sir Elton John. The follicly-challenged singer has splashed out a fortune on hair transplant surgery to cover his blushes.

I started to lose my hair at 16. I honestly thought I'd be mostly bald by 20! I have to say that at this point, I'm just happy to have had my hair as long as I've had it. If it goes now, I'm okay with that
