Hmm, who will they enlist next? Our 12 yr old sons and daughters or maybe they are secretly "creating" tube war-children in some isolated high security location? In my opinion, the issues are not about gays or even women in the military. It is about our officials/governments compromising attitude. IS there any line they will not cross? How obvious that what once was thought immoral, unspeakable, wrong and any other descriptive term used is now just peachy grand -- as long as they can keep playing GI Joe at the loss of many American families. So heart breaking.

Military service is shameful. Wars should be the last resort. And the last resort should never be reached.

Of course, Kevin. Somehow the bad people in the world don't seem to live up to that expectation. So what do you do when they won't follow your 'rules' you just set?

Either you confront the issue now, or you confront it later. History is very clear on this matter regarding human nature.

Oh yeah, homosexuality is against the UCMJ. Adultery is also. Probably for the same good reason; when you have people in high stress occupations with firearms and area effect explosives, removing the last bits of dignity and/or privacy may just push them over the edge.

My example would be simply - a squad leader who has relations with one of his/her squad - male or female - and is then expected to, on a daily basis, send the entire squad into harm's way. Somehow it's acceptable to take those life risking chances without the added pressure of not being able to fairly compete for favor with the shot-caller.
