See more on source A lot of that stuff is good to do even if you think global warming is mostly or entirely natural. It saves energy and it keeps real pollutants out of the environment. The only one that is real questionable is recycling. Most of the time it takes more energy to recycle than you save in waste. Penn and Teller did a good piece on it for their BS show. Basically, if it doesn't pay to recycle, then it really doesn't pay to recycle (in other words, definitely recycle aluminum cans and copper and anything else they pay you to recycle). Not wanting to get in a recycling debate but one thing to think about is landfill problems. Acquiring expensive land for landfill, availability of land, chemical leakage of batteries.....etc. Don't live as Al Gore lives. Another: Don't fart! That polar bear is "up the creek".. serves him right for eating all those cute seals. Check out Penn and Teller's BS on recycling, they went over the landfill deal too. New landfills not only aren't pollution risks, they actually provide energy. They run a system of pipes through them and extract the gases for energy generation. I like the new bulbs. I have been replacing the non visible bulbs in my house with them as the old ones burned out. Now with the covered ones, I can replace all the soft white bulbs in my house, which is pretty much everywhere but the dining room. Can't wait for the LED bulbs to hit, they use even less electricity and should light right up instead of taking a minute or so to reach full brightness (although that isn't such a bad thing in the mornings)... |
