true... and the FBI, CIA, FCC, FDA, the Coast Guard, Social Security, Medicaid/Medicare... the list is long.

The idea is to give the insurance companies competition, whcih will bring down prices. Right now, they have none.

What we have doesn't work. We've had plenty of time to see that, and it's time for a new approach.

We have the best medical system in the World. The problem is it is too expensive. Handing it over to the government is a terrible risk in view of all of their bumbling in the past. I would also like to know how adding all of these uninsured people to the rolls will save money?

The reason that our system is so costly is because those who are paying for medical insurance now are subsidizing those who won't or can't pay. How else do you think doctors and hospitals recover their money from the uninsured they are treating now?

Come back to reality, Jay. France has the best medical system in the world, and the US's ranks a pathetic 37th in the world. The government runs things just fine; saying that the government can't run things right is just a baseless scare tactic. The top 20 healthcare systems in the world are all government-run Universal Healthcare Systems.

The US's system is in the toilet, and circling the drain. Some things just aren't meant to be a for-profit enterprise; they're just too essential to be subject to the fickle whims of the free market. Americans pay the most for their healthcare, and get the least amount of value for their dollars. It being too expensive is only the tip of the iceburg.
