We need to be aware that seemingly ironclad evidence may in fact be altered.

This reminds me of a social experiment from the last century.
An entire roomful of people were "in" on the experiment, with the exception of one person who was the "subject". All the people involved were adults.
The procedure was to present a simple math problem (2+3=?) and have the subject give the answer in front of the room. Of course, the person always answered "5".
The other people had been instructed, in advance, to dispute the answer and convince the subject that the correct answer was was "4".
In the face of collective opposition, only around 30% of the subjects were able to maintain the correct answer.
So, yes, we seem to be culturally conditioned to distrust our own senses and personal experiences.

I would say that test left no questions about our own self doubt. It's really a shame too because when one considers the many important decisions we are constantly making, that self doubt can have a very negative effect upon our lives.

isn't it true that an eyewitness is one of the worst witnesses?

Hi there lollipop10, You wouldn't happen to have a twin on clipmarks would you? You remind me so much of someone I see only once in a great while and for the life of me, I can't ever remember her name. Oh well, maybe it'll come to me later. Anyway, I believe you're right, an eyewitness is one of the worst witnesses. You wouldn't happen to know why would you?

Very good clip! Thanks chestnut501.

Once in a while these kind of clips need to be posted, to remember (all) people of their subjectivity and our limitations to perceive or maintain perception of truth (by 'truth' I mean not the concept, but facts that do not change by our understanding of it).

duh.. 'remember' should be 'remind'. Typical Dutch error.
