tabsey says: A lot of people still don't care about, or don't accept, that a food shortage for all is actually happening. The water shortage is tipped to lead to wars. Watch the film "Mad Max" for a glimpse of a future. The other night on TV there was a documentary about the food shortage in Zimbabwe. The people (mostly in the rural areas) have been reduced to eating insects, cats and dogs. It goes without saying that the wildlife is dwindling rapidly and animal shelters can no longer afford to feed their charges. Things are desperate for both people and animals. But then, things are desperate for the poor of our country as well. I belong to a feeding scheme for the elderly not more than 20kms from where I live, and some of these old people walk for miles once a week to collect a litre of soup and a loaf of bread. And that has to sustain them for an entire week. It's so overwhelming and so hearbreaki... I understand how you feel michellezm. These are difficult times. But "stopping the world and getting off" will only spare you. And this world needs all of the you who are out there. We can not allow despair to rule. Individually we can not save the world. What we can do is be present in our lives and do what we can right where we are at. One person at a time, one to one and you will have done the most anyone can. Sure there are many who are doing little or nothing. Trust me, they will have their day. More and more folks who care are starting to change their individual worlds to include those immediately around them. These circles will expand. And as they do, those who do nothing, will be... That's such an encouraging response, Zalisan. One needs to be reminded that even the little we do has a ripple effect. I tend to forget that and feel overwhelmed at times. Thank you. |
