PANIC WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE AHHH! Not sure how they calculate these numbers. The interesting thing about the virus is that for it to be a successful virus, it can't be too deadly; otherwise, it will kill the hosts before they have a chance to transmit it. I would think the young and the elderly would be the most at risk, no matter where they were. I haven't read the other articles, but I'd say that a global mass transport infrastructure has got to play a part in widening the scope for more deaths... seems that every year at this time another "we're all going to die from the flu" scare emerges. I'm not suggesting that it's not true (actually, i find it quite scary). Just seems like if this is true, somebody ought to be doing something about it so we're prepared. Maybe some of those $$$ devoted to the war in Iraq could be used. I remember reading last year that the US government weren't prepared to buy in adequate supplies of the flu vaccine, so people were buying in from Canada... |
