So chaotic weather patterns have nothing to do with the energy we are pumping into a complex system? - come on that's basic.

It is quite possible that the UK could become very much colder as a result of global warming if the melting of Arctic ice diverts or stops the gulf stream.

What a mass of horsefeathers. Who's the oceanographer, you or me? Have you read Stommel's classic text book "The Gulf Strream". Snort.

It is also quite possible if a meteor enters earth's atmosphere and lands on AlGore's carbon spewing mansion, it might divert or stop the bullshit stream.

Friend, "Global Warming" is a pack of lies concocted by liberals as a scare tactic to gain $$ and power. In fact, we are entering a period of Global Cooling.

Aren't we technically at the end of an ice age? So shouldn't things naturally get warmer and the ice caps melt? There have been periods in history where the ice caps have been completely gone right? I'm not saying pollution is a good thing and that we shouldn't do what we can to protect the environment but I'm not sure I really buy into the whole global warming thing. The earth is a very resilient thing that will most likely continue to exist and support some type of life long after we humans have died off.

No I haven't read "The Gulf Stream", but wouldn't mind getting hold of a copy. Is the 1972 edition the most recent.

I based my comment on the study by The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton
This was widely reported in the British press at the end of 2005 1, 2.

As an expert can you tell me if this study is invalid? (without snorting if possible) As a lay-man interested in science I would be interested to know if there are more recent studies that contradict it.

The study was reported in Nature in December 2005 if you're interested.
