Two things I find of concern here, first, the part about "fueled by atomic bombs with the power to destroy half of Planet Earth". Imagine, a missile, I mean rocket, that could do that much damage.

And second, "The project lives today in limbo at NASA possibly to be activated should an asteroid arrive with our name on it".

I can't help but wonder which is the greater of the two possibilities, blowing ourselves up or getting hit by a 'life on earth ending' asteroid? And how are we going to get all of the people on Earth inside a rocket the size of the empire state building? Oh I get it now, only the elite will be saved. In the meantime we live with the danger of blowing ourselves of...

I can't help but wonder which is the greater of the two possibilities, blowing ourselves up or getting hit by a 'life on earth ending' asteroid? In the meantime we live with the danger of blowing ourselves off the face of the earth so a handful of rich and powerful sociopaths can escape. There is one bright aspect of this that we can comfort ourselves with and that is the fact that at some point they will run out of food and end up devouring each other. Now if only we can find a way to convince them that a huge asteroid has broken out of its orbit and they have very little time to jump into their space suits and blast off. Bye-Bye
