masbury says: It looks like one of the numerous tricks pulled by Republicans to make it harder for black people to vote isn't going to work. It's time for us to stop this GOP effort to dis-enfranchise voters. The GOP tactics are becoming all too familiar. It's great to see the Republican voter suppression efforts failing all around the nation. I think this may help keep us alert to what they have been doing for decades and want to do for decades more: purge from the roles poor, minority and student voters; purge from the roles voters who have not kept up with their paperwork or not dotted their i's Hopefull the new Congress will make laws to stop this from continuing. P.S., BTW, the first person actually arrested this year for voter registration fraud (and with a real serious campaign to scam voters...it's incredible)...well, that person is a Republican, head of a group funded by a friend of John McCain. (See: http://www.reuters.com/arti... And thanks to the judges who are finally doing real judgments. I lived and voted in Indiana in 2004. I was forced to cast a provisional ballot despite being registered and having a picture I.D. I was forced to leave the line and go back to my car for my car registration and insurance papers - now 3 forms of ID, and still forced to cast a provisional ballot. Interestingly, everyone in line with me to cast a provisional ballot was minority or low-income. No designer shoes in that line. Chomsky - America is not a democracy http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=j0ZoCghDIfc It's terrible making it a hassle for people to vote, turn them away, etc. A recent article said only 42% of Americans have confidence in our voting system. That's pretty ridiculous, isn't it? We sent a man to the moon 40 years ago, land little robots on Mars, spend 12-billion a month on false wars started for false reasons...you'd figure we could have a voting system that works smoothly and includes everyone. Big shots can make big money off of going to the moon. But inclusive voting could cost them. |
