well,first of all I am egyptian,but let me first say that this stupid habit (purification of females is far from islamic conception.).. it is only applied in african countries..the africans taught the egyptians this inhuman habit..it is a sort of slavery and a proof of inequality between males and females (most of time(people mix ISLAM with their own customes which is the worst thing)..yes i say ok for the purification of male because the urinal liquid flowing considered as dirt and the extra skin should be cut to keep the sex organ clean..but for females it is not obligatory at all .they have 2 separate systems(genital and unrinal...finally ,I hope that this habit disappears completely from egypt..who knowa ?..thanks

The main goal in FGM is to preserve the girls virginity by making the enjoyment of sex difficult if not impossible.This is what they consider purification.
I am not Islamic, but from what I understood, falcon1950 is right. Actually I believe in the Quran there is a certain importance placed on the wife's enjoyment of sex with her husband.

Official Egyptian statistics say 97 percent of women aged 15 to 49,
Christians and Muslims alike, have undergone what the UN prefers to
call female genital mutilation, or FGM.
at least in genital mutilation there is no gender discrimination, man & woman alike .... !

You've lost me, syncopath. If you are referring to male circumcision, it is not even CLOSE to the same thing! Removing the foreskin is not the same as removing half the penis! Men can still enjoy sex after it has been done, while the whole point of "female circumcision" is to prevent the woman feeling any pleasure from sex at all! If that is not gender discrimination, I don't know what is!

I understand the thought, but it doesn't make much sense. How would she know she isn't going to enjoy it until she does it? And by then the virginity is gone... Where's the logic there? Talking to a friend about it??

@Perkalicious11
I could be wrong, but from what I understood they believe that having this area intake will make girls want to have sex, thus endangering her virginity.
In some of these cultures a women's virginity is that most valuable thing that she can/ her family can own. A woman cannot be married if she is not a virgin.
