merrie says: Iran would face “isolation, international pressure, and a potential nuclear arms race in the region that will increase insecurity for all.” And Obama said he would continue to pursue a missile-defense system in Europe as long as the Iranian nuclear threat existed – but suggested he would abandon it if Iran abandoned its nuclear pursuits. Though there is bipartisan support for many of the steps, Obama may face resistance from Republicans in the Senate on ratification of the Test Ban Treaty and other moves. Speaking to Iran, the other nation widely thought to be pursuing nuclear weapons, Obama reiterated his campaign pledge to engage the Tehran regime, winning applause for saying, “We believe in dialogue.” In his speech Obama laid out shorter-term steps, like beginning international talks on banning production of fissile material, could revive momentum on international arms control, despite potential resistance from Republicans in Congress. “We believe in dialogue.”...and if that fails, tough sanctions by the UN....oh, I feel so much safer now! Russia, China, Iran and N Korea know who and what they are dealing with, an appeaser, a guard dog with no teeth, an illusion of a president, an empty suit. No. The USA is the largest nuclear power in the world, the first country to ever develop and use a nuclear weapon. The Soviet union originally developped nuclear weapons to protect itself from the US nuclear fire, through deterrence. So IMHO the USA is the number one proliferator. It would be the right move to do this. It would be the right move to do this.Signed: Putin, Kim Jong Ill, Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. How naive in your thinking the USA will be safer by disarming and believing the others will follow or would not nuke us in a heart beat. How many Thousands of Nuclear Weapons will the US be happy with. There are way too many in th world, even now. From a high of 65,000 active weapons in 1985, there were about 20,000 active nuclear weapons in the world in 2002. Many of the "decommissioned" weapons were simply stored or partially dismantled, not destroyed. As of 2007, the total number was expected to continue to decline by 30%-50% over the next decade. Considering this, why call nobelprize4peace 'naive'. Since the reduction (and that's alot of heartbeats dI211), have you been 'nuked'? Under NATO nuclear weapons sharing, the United States has provided nuclear weapons for Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey to d... and your point is what? Are you upset that the US can defend itself? I would be the first to wish that all nukes were history, but that simply is not going to happen. Everybody wants them especially our enemies. It would be naive to believe if the US disarmed itself of nukes that the rest of the world to follow suit. How naive in your thinking the USA will be safer by disarming andYour are right! And it's all because they HATE FREEDOM! War is Peace Freedom is Slavery Ignorance is Strength |
