It's great that I clipped a story regarding this LAST YEAR and Putin was the Russian President then. What's even funnier is that Russia quickly boasted about how they have a 'new MIRV warhead' that western powers cannot stop, even with the U.S. missile shield. So what is it, Putin? Either you are an outright liar claiming that you have a 'superior' weapon that we cannot stop, or you really don't and were just bluffing and now are nervous because the U.S. has a system that works. Typical Soviet propoganda, until you call them on it. Our own politics most likely played a part in Putin's decision to invade Georgia. We've got a congress that's afraid to win a war we are already winning. If Obama wins and with his cronies in congress, Putin could retake most of what they lost with the break up of the USSR. Knowing the US is so divisive and doesn't have the stomach to fight and will simply look the other way at their aggression. “I am an absolute and pure democrat,” Putin said. “There simply aren’t others like this in the world.”Recent events in Georgia prove this little goose stepping Adolph different. dl...I fear you are right. The missile shield is an excuse. Who doesn't know that?? Russia is set to move. Europe is weak and the US is weakening because of it's leadership in Congress and the culture that has developed here. It's very difficult to watch the pandering, the shallowness, the apathy...We in the US have been so blessed with soooooo much prosperity that we can't recognize tyranny and/or oppression unless it's at our front door. When I think of how segments of our society resisted going against the Al-Qaeda and still do...we are ripe to receive and submit to the frog-boiling that is moving across the globe. jatfla - The times surely have changed, and not for the better. We continually blame Congress but those more at fault are the ones who keep electing these morons. You are absolutely right about our society, we simply have too many people here that are either ignorant or simply do not care enough to fight for anything anymore. We can not survive much longer with that kind of attitude. The future looks bleak for the US, and the kind of change we need will not be the kind BO is preaching. The future looks bleak for the USOur future looks bleak due to our internal strife, that's the real killer, not Russia or China, like the saying goes, we have seen the enemy and they are us. Let's not write US off quite so quickly. We're not the enemy, although we certainly aid them, no question there (some of us anyway). That + some $$$ and Putin thinks he's back. It will come back to haunt them though. They lost their best brains already... the new generation being raised might be nationalistic, but they're no MIT/Stanford/Harvard materials. Yes, they can drink and do drugs and cause riots with the best of them and even carry Putin's posters across the Red Square, but the fact that they were inferior technology-wise and their army isn't anything superior remains. Their population is dwindling and from everything I hear, despite Mr. Putins efforts nothing points to the po... Good post, RecordSage. Unfortunately, inept or not, we will be dealing with these thugs for quite some time. They're large enough and rich enough in resources that many of their shortcomings can be masked. RecordSage- Wish I could be as optimistic about our future as you are, but continuing events year after year seem to suggest a more rapid decline than any sort of recovery and I'm an optimist. It's hard to get a country turned around when half of Congress doesn't seem to mind if we fail and about that percentage of the population as well. We as a people are more divided than we've ever been and can agree on absolutely nothing. Hope you are right but I'm not holding my breath. I totally agree with you dl211... and I have a careful balance between optimism and realism... As for being more divided than ever - I would disagree with you there. If you watch HBO's John Adams - you'd shudder at similarities with today, although certainly, and as much as I'd disagree with Hamilton, I'd take him any day over Pelosi and such. Unfortunately Americans got too 'comfortable' and don't know what bad is, thus the apathy and mind-bending lunacy of some thinking they want socialism here. We have to start getting better people elected... or it's going to get really lousy and then hopefully the crowds will wake up from false hallucinations about socialism, communism, aka current f... Good comments and discussion from all. Thanks for the clip, Willhelm! It's kind of funny... I just watched Paul McCartney in Red Square concert a few days ago and he met with Putin (this was back in the days with Heather) and they're sitting at the table and Heather asks Putin whether he'll sign the anti-landmine treaty with other nations. He replies that whatever they can do to 'help people' - they certainly will. And in few short years, now they're threatening to go 'beyond diplomacy'... What a joke! P.S. I wonder if the planted any land mines in Georgia? If they did - it's definitely Medvedev... after all Putin promised Heather... and it's on the record... P.P.S. The concert was great, btw... anyone fan of McCartney and/or the Beatles would certainly enjoy it. Paul was/is/will be GREAT! Oleg, Thanks for the tip. Check my user profile and I'll be in touch via email soon Shoot, you revealed my real name... now Putin will know who I am... I'm off to hide in some Afghan cave... (hope they have wi-fi there...) |
