zasel says: I highly recommend y'all click on the top link to read the complete article. It is very sad, and yet revealing of how a government who is sending our youngest and finest to fight and die in Iraq, are ill equipped to deal with many of those brave soldiers who are suffering from PTSD. The VA is not there to always help you. My husband is a veteran of two years of service after a medical discharge. When he got out, the VA tried telling him he didn't qualify for medical benefits. He went 6 months without life saving coumadin, (blood thinners), because of them. Come to find out when SSI said he was not disabled, Unemployment refused to help him saying he was disabled, and employers refused to hire him saying he was a medical liability if he threw a blood clot on their premises, we were forced to finally go to social services to file for full welfare benefits to pay our rent and get medical, they sent us to a VA representative who told us he DID have VA medical care. Th... Unfortunately happyhomemaker, The Bush Administration only gives lip service to "support your troups". bush has supported the troops since day one in office, i know this for a fact because i was one. so don't just jump on the "hate the president" bandwagon - how about blaming the VA who's fault it actually is. They get plenty of funding, they're dropping the ball like they have in the past. The article is very sad but it's unfortunatly becoming a common thing with troops coming back home. Make it a point to talk to them, but don't pry or push. usmcpug82, In every war there are casualties. Critics say in this war, it is veterans’ health care. While the government has spent more than a trillion dollars on the Iraq conflict, at least $127 billion has been spent on veterans’ health care since the war began, with drastic cuts to medical treatment for all veterans. If you want to support an administration who has continued to put our brave men and women in harms way for no good reason, then that is your business; but don't insult my intelligence with idiotic right-wing rhetoric such as "jumping on the hate the President bandwagon." HappyHomeMaker, I am terribly chagrined to hear what happened to your husband and you. It is unforgivable when our government fails to care for those citizens who lay their lives on the line for our country. I hope your situation improves, but most importantly, I sincerely hope your husband's medical condition becomes less of a concern as time goes by. I do not personally blame President Bush for what the VA does. However, I DO hold him responsible for being careless in the manner in which he sends our troops into harm's way. Our fighting forces are their to protect and defend our country, but not to force a neo-con ideology on the world at the barrel of a gun. I definitely am on the ... Don't you agree that the Bush Administration is responsible for drastic cuts in funding for medical treatment for veterans Zasel? A couple of things to point out. When all of this first started, Clinton was President, not Bush. So if we're going to point fingers, let's point them in the right direction. I blame the right people. The VA and the idiots who run it. Right now he has good coumadin people, but his doctor herself is indifferent and really could care less, so we're forced to go to private health care if he throws a blood clot. Two, I have some serious health issues and we found out later my daughter was born missing part of her brain and had seizure disorder. SSI fought me hard on my daughter and I was giving up fighting them on myself. I went to a lawyer to fight them for my daughter and during ques... Happy, I am sorry what your family has had to endure with a system that was not addressing your needs. I AM glad that the R's are out of office because I believe the next thing on their agenda was to dismantle Social Security, especially SSDI and SSI. I think the measure of a good society is how we treat others. It's true that government is often mismanaged and the democrats are also governed by corporate greed, but they are still the more liberal party especially regarding the Social Security system and dramatic cuts to the Veterans Programs. Yes debbyski, I do agree with your point about the Bush administration's cuts to the VA. As a matter of fact, if you read my entire comment, you will see that I am hardly a fan of this president or his miserable administration. To say I loath them is putting it way too mildly. Happy, ,my heart sincerely goes out to you and your family. The people who have treated you in this manner should be horribly ashamed of themselves, and yet, I am sure they are not. I could go on with a political diatribe at this moment, but in all honesty, it would serve no positive purpose. I only want you to know that my thoughts and wishes are with you for better tomorrows, and I hope you will keep in touch and inform us of your progress. Michael (Zasel) Thank you Michael. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I've yet to find one president who has yet to stand up to scrutiny of any kind. I'll be honest, I voted for Bush, the first time, not the second. I did not vote for Gore the Bore, however, as I feel he was an extension of my all time non-favorite Veteran hating President, Clinton. (Unfortunately his wife, whom I did not vote for, is my Senator, oh irony of ironies.) All Presidents are, are nothing more than a crooked politician in charge of a whole country instead of a town, county, or city. Simple as that. That's my assessment. Things are looking up for us only because we fought for it. We didn't wait around for it to improve, w... |
