I have been reminded in my "More BushCo Dictatorial Arrogance - Our Elected Dictator" clip that because we are in fact a representative democracy Lincoln's words "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." are not exactly accurate, but rather only nice flowery verbiage, which makes for great press and grade-school patriotism. I would say that a proposal such as The National Initiative would be supported by Lincoln, as he understood the belief upon which they propose that the people have a right to change the constitution, having been the granter of it's powers in the first place.

I have long believed that the lack of communications technology directly affected the model our government took in the founding days, and that we would be a much different nation with more direct action by the people with their hand on the spoon to stir the soup. I also believe that the nature of the role of Congress could change in some positive way if their function was to be wise, not be greedy.

Given where this nation seems to be headed under its perversions of the mechanism we now have, down the BushCo. turnpike to fascist-land, I don't think we could do a lot worse by having more control over our own destiny.
