They found the 'backup teeth, by CT (Computed Tomography) Scan of the skull. The dinosaur's posture was determined, by studying the canals of it's brain's balancing organs. They also say that the vertebrae were paper thin, and while it was difficult to imagine them coping with stresses of every day use, they have the 'grinning face' of the specimen to prove it was possible.
