Fast T friend says: Above all things, Alexander was a great military commander, leading his troops into every encounter. A bit of an over-achiever, the historian Plutarch wrote that Alexander wept upon learning that the universe was infinite. When asked what was wrong, he replied: "There are so many worlds, and I have not yet conquered even one." Most expensive funeral ever. ChipMarks With all my interest in history there was one major bit that I knew nothing about and that was the legacy of rules and empires that he left behind. Considering his short life and desire to spread his affections with male or female, this was exceptional. I knew nothing of this until there was words on the white Cleopatra ruling Egypt. Apparently this line was back to Alexander and then I discovered that there were many similar dynasties. Napoleon left a similar set-up on a much smaller scale. Alexander was best as the military man, IMO, but Napoleon gets my vote as ruler and innovator. |
