Very cutting politcal commentary. Love it! Because a publicly financed institution should be promoting "cutting political commentary." This was a part of an exhibition featuring many artist on many different topics. They we not representing the opinion of the library. Get a grip. Yet had it been a display with Christian religious symbols (not dunked in urine), the ACLU would be all over it as not only representing the opinion of the library, but as a form of government established religion. And if it were Fake Democrats Mugshots you wouldn't be complaining, would you. No , you'd be laughing you arse off. So would I, actually, because it's funny. Politicians are great targets of humor, it comes with the job description. They are not religious symbols . If you can make fun of the democrats, we can make fun of the republicans. Chill out. What makes you think I didn't laugh? But I still don't think a public library is the proper venue for this type of display. Perhaps they should have done it in front of the WH so they could have been arrested right away and then n2 would have something more substantive to say on behalf of national security. My public library displays all kinds of Jewish, Christian forms of art, including books of course, I have never seen a peep from ACLU as indicated by n2. Do I go out and complain why don't they do the same equal amount of publicity for other religions? This exhibition has no political agenda," the library said in a statement issued Thursday. "The work described in the media has been presented out of context and is not a complete or fair representation of the entire exhibition — which showcases 23 different contemporary printmakers from around the world, featuring a range of subject matters." Who says art can't be political, and why should a library be censored by political agenda. Libraries are places for free thought. Books on every subject including politics. Well then, let's see them put up a manger scene to celebrate the national holiday of Christmas. As long as they display a menorah, something for kwanzaa, and other religions , non religions too. No problem. Ah yeah, the ACLU and all those liberals are plotting to destroy Christianity and install statues of Marx, Allah, Darwin (good idea, that one) Madalyn Murray O'Hair, and Satan in the U.S. Supreme court lobby. This shouldn't be news to anyone--the right (thank you Sooners) has been warning about us for years. As long as they display a menorah, something for kwanzaa, and other religions , non religions too. No problem.I wasn't aware those others were federal holidays. Freedom of religion. Maybe the other religious holidays need to be Federal Holidays too. I'm Christian, I celebrate Christmas. I think the Christmas season is the best time to do unto others as I would want done unto myself. Other Religions Holidays deserve as much respect as mine. I thought Sooner would of been happy I clipped this from non MSM filtered Fox News Freedom of religion. Maybe the other religious holidays need to be Federal Holidays too. I'm Christian, I celebrate Christmas. I think the Christmas season is the best time to do unto others as I would want done unto myself. Other Religions Holidays deserve as much respect as mine. But the federal holiday is Christmas. What other federal holiday are we not allowed to mention in schools? What other federal holiday are we not allowed to celebrate on government property? What other federal holiday must be offset by non-federal holidays so as not to offend anyone? Do we celebrate the independence of every free nation in the world on the fourth of July? Do we honor every veteran i... Ah yeah, the ACLU and all those liberals are plotting to destroyDenial or Ignorance? I suspect a little of both with a heaping serving of hate and bigotry thrown in. I didn't know that the goverment mandating anything was a good idea....maybe they should be federally mandated holidays. But then again, the last time one of those came up, a bunch of Republicans fought it for years, I think that it was a day celebrating the life of one Martin Luther King jr. I wonder why that happened? Also, if its a federally mandated holiday, does that mean that I have to obey it? Must I go to Midnight Mass (or the tent revival equivalent), or maybe I should not have had chicken on Thanksgiving, that might have violated some kind of federal law (looks over his shoulder, yes I am speaking about myself in the third person). But the federal holiday is Christmas. What other federal holiday are we not allowed to mention in schools? What other federal holiday are we not allowed to celebrate on government property? What other federal holiday must be offset by non-federal holidays so as not to offend anyone? There is a seperation of Church and State. When Cristmas was made a federal holiday, this was not taken into account. That was a different time and era in this country, before we knew better. Sorry, but the government does have to abide by this in order to protect the rights of ALL the people not just Christians. Freedom of religion means that all religions and non religions are to be treated equa... There is a seperation of Church and State. When Cristmas was made a federal holiday, this was not taken into account. No, there wasn't. That was an invention of the liberal courts. The constitution says nothing about any wall or any separation. It simply says that the legislature cannot make any laws that establish an official government religion or restrict the freedom of religion. These new laws of the land established by the courts that make secularism the official religion of the land and that restrict religious expression and speech are blatantly unconstitutional. It simply says that the legislature cannot make any laws that establish an official government religion or restrict the freedom of religionNo officail government religion or restrict the freedom of religion means that they all have to be treated equally. This is why if you put a manger scene on public property you have to represent other religions too, or do not display ANY of them on public property. That way people do not feel that christianity is the officail government religion. This exhibition has no political agendaWho cares? I'm just too bad those pics aren't pages from a history book... yet. Holidays smolidays. Federal or not. Merry Xmas folks. @TN - I wish they were too. And Merry Christmas to you too AAAND... I wish I were more artistic myself. *LOL* Psst! You can paint and I'll hand you the spray cans and keep an eye out for the cops! Okay? *LOL* Psst! I'll start making the preliminary sketches now mwahahaha! Merry Christmas to everyone at CM because it's funny. Politicians are great targets of humor, it comes with the job description. They are not religious symbols .Says it for me. I recall a quote from Oliver Stone's movie 'Nixon' : Nixon shuffles back alone, coming to a stop in front of a larger-than-life, full-length oil portrait of JOHN F. KENNEDY. Nixon studies the portrait, pads closer. Looks up. NIXON When they look at you, they see what they want to be. (then) When they look at me, they see what they are ... I won't be presumptuous enough to suppose "everyone" includes me but Merry Christmas to you too, Debbyski. Merry Christmas Willhelm . And have a Happy New Year too Willhelm. Thanks, Ljsdesign, Merry Christmas to you as well. |
