Those links were very interesting.

Taken as a conglomerate, Jackson, Young, Sharpton and Georgia Rep. John Lewis represent a sort of civil rights old boy network

To the extent that the term "leader" is applicable, these four men likely represent the interests of Democratic Party insiders more than those of the black community.

If Obama makes a strong showing in the South Carolina primary -- the first with a substantial number of black voters -- it will become apparent that the black boy network has begun bouncing checks.

I felt I was being rational. I checked out all the articles linked in the story.

I understand the point you are making (or I believe you are making). And an interesting poll with some reflection on race: South Carolina

Good insights, as always - thanks!

You are absolutely right, the probability is not good though. It may well be that Obama will be the exception. But this is an electorate that is known to avoid voting for someone for the crudest of reasons such as because they have a longer name, or they don't shoot birds. Obama is on the wrong side of so many of the personal quality touchstones that voters use it is amazing: race, age, name, history, drug use, experience, geography.

If there we no other candidate in the field that supported ideas I held important, if there were no other candidate in the race that stood a chance, then Obama would be the...
