It is hard to run for office and perform another job. I don't understand why they don't make the candidates give up any elected position until the campaign is over. Doesn't someone need to do that job while he or she is busy?

And who would make the law prohibiting holding office while running for one?

Despite its name, Obama's subcommittee has some oversight over Afghanistan. While he now says on the campaign trail that Afghanistan <A target="_blank" href="http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/does_obama_chair_a_senate_subcommittee_that.html">requires more focus and attention</A> </FONT><FONT face="times new roman,times" size="3">, he overlooked his own jurisdictional responsibilities in that theatre for the entire time he has served in the US Senate.
