early in the last century, the Seine, which flows from the north of France 
through Paris to the English Channel, was home to large saesonal runs of salmon 
as they migrated from the sea to their freshwater birth place to reproduce from

gradually devastated by the construction of dams and the pollution by the 
chemical industry, farming, industrial waste and sewage, which&nbsp; lead to the 
extinction of salmon in the Seine between the two world wars. The signal that 
the massive restoration efforts to clean the river by reducing discharges 
occurred in 2009 when&nbsp; angler caught a six kilogram (13 pound) Atlantic 
salmon just downstream from Paris. This was the confirmation of the findings of
