No public option = NO REFORM. If you haven't already, sign the petition at Citizens For A Public Option and let you government know that you support REAL healthcare reform

Feingold talking about the "privilege" of being able to acquire health care. Is this a joke or something?

I live thirty miles from reasonable employment opportunities and they want to try and tell me that my having a drivers license is a privilege?!?

Tell me, is it therefore a privilege for big business to pollute our rivers and streams, toxify the land and cut down the rain forests?!?

Not in the least bit.

Healthcare is not considered a "right" here in America. The system has been set up to make good healthcare something you earn the privilege of access to by getting a job or buying yourself, rather than the society coming together and saying that healthcare is something everyone should have the right to, and that we as a society will set up the system (and pay for it) so that everyone has access to healthcare by right.

Right now we have essentially a "privilege-based" system based on corporate profits. Feingold is arguing for healthcare being treate...

@SM
My last comment was not directed at you and I will refrain as you suggested.

On the other hand:

And who decided health care to be a privilege in the US? I do not recall their being a vote on the subject. And who says that it being a privilege is somehow more honorable than it being a right?

So, I take it you agree that having a drivers license (in general) ought to be a right.

You have the right to apply for a license and demonstrate that you're a responsible driver and should be trusted to take the wheel of 2000+ pounds of pedestrian-crushing, property-destroying metal around in public.

If one demonstrates that one is unable to responsibly control an automobile (through being a general knucklehead, a drunk driver, or due to age or infirmity), the public's right not to get run over and killed by an out of control driver comes into play. And people can (and should) get the right to drive a car taken away in those circumstances.

A right, sure. But not an absolute, unqualified one.

Okay, agreed. But there are other situations where the license is taken away for reasons other than being a danger to pedestrians. An example I am familiar with is nonpayment of child support. If a person in this situation has their license revoked, their chances of correcting their fault decrease drastically, especially if they live in the sticks.
