The page for Shakespeare is one of a few that Google has put together with results organized on an actual page, but searching for an author (particularly one who's works are in the public domain) shows a typical Google listing of excerpts, full books, etc.

Hint: try searching at http://books.google.com/ for public domain authors and select "Full view books" and you will get results that are have PDF downloads of the full book instead of getting tons of hits where the author's name appears, excerpts of books still in copyright, reviews, news, etc.
