The trashing of the Geneva Conventions (i.e. saying the U.S. didn't have to obey them) was in Congressional legislation approved in September 06...the same legislation that claims to give immunity to those who did torture.

The Pentagon started planning it's torture programs in 2001.

Note: I wouldn't trust General Petraeus as far as I could throw him and this idea -- which I hadn't realized before -- that he would be a 'dream candidate,' for a Republican president must be one of the forces behind the effort to paint him as some sort of George W...

Note: I wouldn't trust General Petraeus as far as I could throw him and this idea -- which I hadn't realized before -- that he would be a 'dream candidate,' for a Republican president must be one of the forces behind the effort to paint him as some sort of George Washington or new Dwight Eisenhower when he's really more of a military bureaucrat who bends with the wind and biggest (temporary) success was putting the enemy on the payroll for a couple of years to quell violence (the "surge").

Being called a "wise man," by John McCain is also of dubious merit.
