schreibe says: Krugman is correct in saying that this is not the middle class society that I grew up in! Maybe that's why so few people care much about "the two income family" just treading water to stay afloat.......the young families today don't have anything to compare their plight to.......they never lived in a society where one person could actually make enough money to keep his family in the necessities of life......those days are gone! Very pertinent. Very timely Our grandparents were happy with food, shelter and clothing. Our parents had a period of prosperity after WW2 and we inherited this prosperity and built on it. Our children find themselves in the same boat as our grandparents and (as stated by Schriebe) have nothing to compare their plight with. They have also inherited the "planet under stress" that is the payment for this prosperity. One thing we can do is keep the power from the conservatives so that future generations can at least feel empowered to cause change. Hopefully they can learn from history and not make the mistakes that we selfishly made. |
