Sounds like a hostage situation. The church is holding those most vulnerable as hostages, until it gets what it wants. Disgusting!

Witness true catholic compassion in action. The best fiction writer couldn't make a better statement about it.

The logical DC action is to rescind non-profit status. I'm confident that after the programs were replaced there would still be a budget surplus remaining on the gains made in doing so.

The Catholic hierarchy is eventually going to have to accept that gays and lesbians are part of God's creation and therefore deserving of equal treatment.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs for the District if the city doesn't change a proposed same-sex marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care.

Under the bill, headed for a D.C. Council vote next month, religious organizations would not be required to perform or make space available for same-sex weddings. But they would have to obey city laws prohibiting discrimination against gay men and lesbians.
