I am saddened for the nation as I watch the president hunker down in his last months in office. He announced that in spite of the increased deadly bombings in Iraq that the troop surge is working and all we need is a bit more patience. He has increased confidence in Alberto Gonzalez in spite of bipartisan calls for his resignation. Sounds like the last days of the Nixon White House; living in a state of denial is not good for the country nor for this president. Frankly, we deserve better.

No, history will be the judge of if we won, not if we are winning right now. Currently, Sunni chiefs are building a party to participate in the political process instead of trying to start a civil war. They even have the goal of improving the US military image withing their community. I so remember the same nonsensical rhetoric during the quagmire in Viet Nam. The sad fact is that the Bush zeal to oust Saddam (the man who tried to kill his daddy) destabilized a political organization causing Iraq to be plunged into political chaos. The brute force of the American military neither can not will solve the problem created by Bush's rash move. If you choose to believe that Iraqis are turning against the terrorists all I can say is that denial is not just a river in Africa. This war is not winable by us. It is now an Iraqi civil war that has the potential for involving the entire region in a catastrophic conflict. But, then, what do I know. I don't have the Bush intelligence! eh eh.
