Mercury is really bad for peoples' health. Can't they come up with something better?

Apparently not...or won't. Just look at the expense they put out there to promote these stupid things. For crying out loud...with all the things to deal with they have to change our light bulbs? They work just fine!!! They can't solve our *real* problems so they created this one. (sigh)

I replaced all the bulbs in our house with compact fluorescent bulbs about 5 years or so ago. I think I have had to replace one so far. The older models took a little longer to "warm up" but the newer ones become fully bright pretty quick unless they are cold. I think the warm up time (under a minute) leads some to think they are not as bright as the incandescent they are replacing. The mercury is a problem.
