schreibe says: One Nation Under Religious Dictatorship! READ ON: "MRFF claims a victory in the case of the evangelical group Operation Stand Up. Earlier this year, OSU was preparing to send "freedom packages" to soldiers in Iraq as part of an Army program. Along with socks and snacks, the packages included proselytizing materials in English and Arabic, and the apocalyptic video game, "Left Behind: Eternal Forces." In it, Christians carry on warfare against people of other faiths. After the plans were made public, the Pentagon announced in August that the materials would not be mailed. OSU did not respond to a request for comment. " Bizarre. I think you will find in general that many of those in the military tend to come from conservative (often religious) backgrounds. Many of them are "cultural Christians." Some of them are true believers. Many of the Christians that I know are very patriotic people, but I really doubt that the military is actively seeking to convert soldiers to Christianity or any other religion. Any appearance of this, in my opinion, is simply military personnel abusing their authority. Ultimately, Lt. Gen. Boykin (who, interestingly, spoke at my H.S. graduation) sees the current conflict with Islam as the fulfillment of the Biblical prophecy that Ishmael (and by extension, his descendants, the... Also, if our military were truly Christian, we should not be seeing atrocities committed by our troops. Didn't force feed me in 20 years. The worst atrocities in history are from Christians. Hitler was a Lutheran. But, I don't believe a Christian by majority standards. Wearing a specific attire doesn't make one a Christian just as standing in a garage doesn't make you a car. IMHO. as far as the air force is concerned, there are places of worship available for every denomination, including Islam and even Wicca.... this article is pure propaganda... they don't force you to be anything and if there are bad apples who are trying force troops to be christian then they will be held accountable. I don't really understand any of the "back and forth" rhetoric about this religion or that religion.....about this belief or that belief. To me, it is very simple. If you are in a public place....if it be to eat a hot dog, or get an education, you should not have to put up with any talk about religion, god, the hereafter, or the thereafter, or the whatever! Live and let live......if you want to pray etc....do it in private! The only prayer that makes sense to me is a prayer to be saved from religion. The Commander In Chief talks to god (he said god told him to attack Iraq) so surely his Air Force leaders will have that information passed on to them to pass on to their troops. With everyone in Iraq on a thin edge, it would not be the place to risk upsetting the leader passing on that info, would it? schreibe said:Requiring me to pray only in private is infringing upon my right to freedom of religion. Or, just like the guy in this article trying to get his son in what was once a military school that did not infringe on a person's rights......I'll just take my marbles and go home. Just maybe I'll stand up for my rights to be free of religious persecution. Why is it that you can state your opinion and that's considered your "right" and your "freedom of speech," but when I calmly and rationally state some observations from my perspective it's considered religious persecution tantamount to some holy crusade? What in the world does, being the only male, not being local at a crowded local bar, not having a cell phone or the latest sneakers, being without a college degree, being fat in a room full of skinnies or sitting amongst the opponent's fans at a soccer game have to do with religions, "pray tell"?Well thinkingblue, according to schreibe, religion makes him feel like an outsider. Thats where there fighting their holy war. And with all their weapons, they can make all them Muslims worship the way they want them to. Knslyr, I moved to "The Bible Belt" just about the time that God started talking to George W. Bush. Also, about the time that the "End Times" series of books were so wildly popular. And, about the time that Falwell, and Robertson were finalizing their takeover of the minds of too many followers. The nonsense that I've had to put up with has indeed made me "intollerant". I can't stand hearing the crap that comes forth from the organized religious right. They outdo me in their intollerance by manyfold. I'm just trying to catch up! Way to take the high road. I've been taking the high road for way too long. It's time to take the same road that these religious right fanatics are so used to crusing so effortlessly. It's time to fight the proverbial fire with fire.....unto to the end time, ......or, until the beginning of sanity! This is why all religious fanatics should be in Iraq. What if a non-believer or what I like to call a RATIONALIST (Bill Maher coined that one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IcUumWzue4 ) would stand up and start ranting to everyone while they were watching a game or at a luncheon, preaching to all, THAT THERE IS NO JESUS, HE'S JUST AN ABERRATION THE SAME AS ZEUS, or IF YOU PRAY YOU ARE JUST TALKING TO YOURSELF or THE BIBLE IS A BOOK OF FICTION or "god forbid" THERE IS NO GOD, HEAVEN OR HELL!!
