Eaglewings says: What where they thinking? With all the craziness in this world already must we be playing dress-up during the time when our children are supposed to be learning? It would appear from the participation that a minority of the students actually participated. Could this indicate that the majority thought it was just plain silly? Talk about WACKY WEEK! I think the only thing wacky about this week was the school district's idea of a wacky week. With all the craziness in the world, why not let the kids have a few days of fun. The ones that complained probably don't want Hallowe'en celebrated either; and what about Christmas and Easter. The real world probably hits a lot of the kids in their faces as soon as class lets out. And so boys dressing up like girls and girls dressing up like boys helps how? I know kids need to play and have fun and all that good stuff but I think this whole make believe wacky week was way over the top. There is enough confusion and mayhem in the world I believe the students would be best served being shown some sense and sensibilities in an otherwise senseless world. And because the report went on to say only 40% of the students actually participated doesn't that say even the majority of the kids thought it was a stupid idea? Or perhaps the majority of the parents thought it was SILLY? Eaglewings, I know that you are sincere in you opinion. I think that there are a couple of things to think about. One is that you and everyone can be grateful that the kids had a choice to participate or not. And two, whether it's a waste of time or not, there is zero chance that anyone is going to be turned into something they are not. Believe me, the bosses of the world only wish it were that easy to control peoples minds! PS According to a TV show I saw today, one can only wish dressing up was the worst thing the kids might be exposed to! Believe me, the bosses of the world only wish it were that easy to control peoples minds!Actually Yanc it is that easy. If you get a person young enough and repeat and action often enough before long that action becomes a habit and the habit becomes a lifestyle. It is the same thing with repeating a lie loud enough and often enough eventually people start to believe it as truth. I am not saying that the dress-up day was a bad thing in and of itself but dress-up week seemed a bit of an overkill. I am not saying that dress-up week was in and of itself damaging to these young people, it is just the idea that playing dress-up was the focus of a whole week of educational time. Heck Halloween only lasts for one night. |
