You can add colour by mixing in some Cool Aid or food colouring.

I can't get cream of tartar where I live. I use but a few teaspoons of glycerine instead.. Works fine and helps avoid cracks. .

(Glycerine is fabulous as a stain remover too, btw. Takes out dried oil paint, chocolate, etc. Cheap too and safe for the environment.)
