ratilfar says: Suicide, death, murder? These programs gotta be pretty good at scaring teens out of having sex, right? Mmm, not exactly. Texan teens "rate well above national averages on virtually every published statistic involving sexual risk-taking behaviors," according to the report, and the state has the third-highest teen birthrate in the country. I don't know where this 94% is, but my daughter's middle school program taught various types of contraception and gave a very good overview. Parents screened the video & materials so they knew what would be presented, and I thought ours was well-done. Always the exception to the rule I guess. Might want to shoot an email to the columnist over at Salon.com and see what she says about it. Remember that study a couple of years ago condeming abstinence-only education? It was bogus and biased. Here's the analysis: http://www.useless-knowledge.com/1234/07apr/article092.html You know you lost me on a) citing something you apparently wrote that has no links except those to the original study, but no others and b) by using the term "liberal media bias". Still I'll take the time to read the report and see what is in there. |
