You see, that just doesn't make sense to me as a Canadian. In Canada, there's no such thing as an "African-Canadian". There are just Canadians who happen to be black; a pretty much meaningless distinction unless you're trying to visually identify a person. Blacks in Canada don't pull into their own group and slap divisive labels on themselves; they fully integrate into Canadian culture, without losing their own original culture. The US system of everyone segregating blacks, including themselves, is not necessary. Yes, there's no doubt that Blacks (and other visual minorities) get discriminated upon, but they can't lay 100% of the blame on white society. At least a small percentage is due to... |
