jklugman says: I suspect that Harris is famous precisely because he confirms society's preconceptions about atheists: that they're dogmatic, intolerant, secretly religious, and amoral. Harris's enthusiasm for torture and the "compassionate killing" of Muslims concern me, not his mysticism. It seems that Harris is becoming a "useful atheist" who provides cover for would-be Muslim bashers. So true. Thanks for the clip Josh, excellent criticism. Brilliant clip. Thanks. Helps me make sense of my basic (negative) gut reaction to Sam Harris. Was disappointed to read about this kooky side of Sam Harris. Gives me pause, and caution in my acceptance of his books, and philosophy........ I feel a need to find out more about the man and his ideas before shouting...... Yeah! I'm very tired of the religious crap of the fundamentalist, but so far, seems like Sam is toting some crap of his own. |
