It's always for the children. Maybe the French will send some food. Probably not. How about Russia. Nope, they don't have enough for their own people. Um. Let's get those bastards in America to do it. Yes. But don't thank them for it, they'll lose their war-mongering status around the world and we can't do that! The Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development compiles statistics on how much Official Development Assistance the world’s 22 wealthiest countries give each year. The organization’s numbers show that as a portion of Gross National Income (roughly equivalent to GDP), the U.S. now ranks second-to-last in giving, at 0.16 percent. (In 2004, Italy dropped into last place below the U.S.) The U.S. also gives much less than what the industrialized countries pledged to give at the 1992 Rio Conference, which was 0.7 percent of their GDP. U.S. development aid, at 0.16 percent of GDP, represents less than one-quarter of this promise. [url=http://www.fa... 1. That has absolutely nothing to do with the point of the post. 2. Those numbers are meaningless since they only count forced charity and don't account for other types of support. BR the fact you have to tie aid to GDP shows how desperate you are to try to make a point. You comparing apples to oranges when you do that. Also, the American people give more to charity in private donations than anyone else by far. Further, American tithe and those tithes are used around the world as well. However, I guess you wouldn't know about that as I suspect you do not give 10 percent to a Church and 10 to charity like most authentically compassionate people. The facts are what they are. You can choose your statistic. Overall spending, which the US would come out on top of, and should since it's GDP is 4 times the next economy, Japan. Or you can choose percentage of ability to give, which would be the more important way to look at it. I have seen statistics that we are the most charitable but I have not seen statistics that show that giving goes overseas. I am more than willing to look at some statistics if someone wants to provide them. Willhelm, it looks like you are the desperate one. What have you said previously about personal attacks? I have my list of charitable organizations I contribute to. My favorite is Oxfam International - [url=... |
