Yes, as is casting a sighted actor to play a blind character; and casting a homosexual actor to play a heterosexual character.

Did that successfully highlight the absurdity of Ms. Bove's comment?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the lovely and talented Marlee Matlin's work, and would hate for her to be overlooked for a role which she would be perfect for, but I think Ms. Bove goes too far.

(I singled out Ms. Matlin because she's the only deaf actor I could come up with off the top of my head.)
