Silkweaver says: An interesting Read, about the perception of time. "EAGLEMAN HAS LONG BEEN fascinated by another type of time warp – the feeling that time slows down during a traumatic event. As a child he fell off a roof in what felt like a slow-motion sequence; as a researcher he collected similar anecdotes from car crash and other trauma victims." I can vouch for this effect having once been in a road accident when I thought Heck, there is a car coming out of a side turning. I am going to hit it. No, maybe I can avoid it Phew, that was close, I am going to miss it, Heck, I am going to hit that lamp column, Are we going to die? No we are not going so fast we should be alright, But the car will be severely damaged. We need it on our holiday next week. All within about three seconds Same thing has happened to me when I was hit by a car, I remember looking over my shoulder when a beam of light cut across me, the car turned left and I remember thinking, maybe I can jump out of the way, then I'm on the hood hanging on to a wheel well and a wiper, I remember thinking ,please don't hit the brakes as I'm on my hands and knees on the side of the road moaning in pain. Seems like it should have taken several minutes. Nope more like a few seconds. Oh man, this stuff has alway intriged me... nice sclip! |
