From article:
Psychiatrists who evaluated Ramkissoon at the request of a judge concluded that she was not criminally insane. Her attorney, Steven Silverman, said the doctors found that her beliefs were indistinguishable from religious beliefs, in part because they were shared by those around her.

"She wasn't delusional, because she was following a religion," Silverman said, describing the findings of the doctors' psychiatric evaluation.

"At times there can be an overlap between extreme religious conviction and delusion," said Robert Jay Lifton, a cult expert and psychiatrist who lectures at Harvard Medical School. "It's a difficult area for psychiatry and the legal system."

Waiting for the child to resurrect not insane? Ah, the benefits of religion.

"At times there can be an overlap between extreme religious conviction and delusion,..."

At times? Where's the line? What will it take for people to question if their beliefs are true, the death of their own children doesn't seem to be enough.

@Oortcloud sometimes it really seems that way. But sometimes it's only religious faith that keeps people sane and on the right track.

Not surprisingly, I disagree.

I'd say instead that in spite of the underpinnings of religious faith, and because of the relationship with other people, people retain some semblance of sanity. Churches and other groups like that provide a locus for people to come together and form bonds. The same can and does happen without the baggage of dogma and superstition.

Perhaps then I should say that only the sick and depraved require religion?

While that may be true, I still believe that instilling religion in others teaches them to accept fantasy over fact and corrupts their ability to think critically. So while some sick people need the religion in order to function, the idea of religion itself teaches insanity.
