He says this project will "create millions of jobs by making the single largest new investment in our national infrastructure since the creation of the federal highway system in the 1950s."

Fixing the American economy by investing in America -- what a novel concept. This might be the one proposal that I find most exciting about Obama's presidency; a return to sanity and the belief that things that have worked in the past will work again.

Even just reinstating Americorps to it's recent levels will give recent college grads will be a major improvement.

Here's a program that gives graduates needed experience, but directs them to jobs at nonprofits dedicated to the public good. Working at Common Ground, some of our best minds and hardest workers came straight out of the Americorps program.

Tremendous. And what a philosophical shift it is to move from handing out money in hopes people will buy stuff (which identifies buying more stuff as the answer to our economic crisis) as opposed to providing jobs (which identifies putting workers to work as the way out of our financial crisis.) I like it, and I think it's an expression of a core difference between Democratic and Republican views.

One focuses on getting individuals to spend, the other focuses on getting individuals to earn.

Our existing fragmented, multi-payer health insurance system cannot created market conditions favorable to efficient, economical health care. Let's adopt a system that actually will slow the growth in health care costs while providing a mechanism for improving the allocation of our health care dollars: a single payer national health program. We must stress the importance of not only reforming health care financing, but also the importance of using multi-specialty, not-for-profit organizations to deliver health care.
