brazilnut72 says: Funny...and scary. Four points: * It goes without saying that editing can go a long way to make people look dumb * Not understanding the difference between suffrage/suffering in the 10-second period where a guy is shoving a petition at you reveals just as much about your intelligence as does say, poor spelling in online chats. * This is ridiculing high school kids * I imagine that that men are just as likely to sign a "End Men's Suffrage" petition but yet we don't see those kind of stunts In short, this video has a nasty tone that leaves a poor taste in my mouth. I do not judge people who enjoy it--in the past I too have enjoyed those "dumb people on the street" videos shown on Jay Leno or Street Smart, b... Dude...not to cast any aspersions on the self-worth of those involved, but I learned about women's suffrage in the fourth grade. I highly doubt that you have never confused the meaning of words or concepts you've learned about in the past. Given that suffering (Google count: 159 million pages) is used a whole lot more than "suffrage" (Google count: 13 million pages), it is unfair and uncharitable to point to someone who, in a rush moment, takes the latter to mean the former and say "they never learned about women's suffrage!". I highly doubt that you have never confused the meaning of words or concepts you've learned about in the past.Good point. The fact that SO MANY of them confuse the point, however, has to say something. US Dept of Ed. school of excellence? A deeper and more troubling stupidity, beyond misunderstanding the meaning of a word, is revealed here. Let's say the petition was actually to end women's suffering, which seemed to be what the signers believed they were signing. Not one asked, how? by what means? all suffering? in what circumstance? has someone actually come up with a way to prevent suffering? wow Let's say the petition was actually to end women's suffering, which seemed to be what the signers believed they were signing. Not one asked, how? by what means? all suffering? in what circumstance? has someone actually come up with a way to prevent suffering?Excellent point, GD. It always astonishes me when I see people signing petitions based on nothing more than what are essentially slogans. When petitions were circulating in Cali to recall the Governor, many people actually signed petitions opposing the recall because the hawkers were chanting "recall Davis", knowing that most dunderheads would not bother actually reading what they were signing. "I imagine that that men are just as likely to sign a "End Men's Suffrage" petition but yet we don't see those kind of stunts" What I was going to say too. |
