egoldstein says: So, last week we went live with Clipmarks 3.0; a HUGE set of new features, functionality and user interface changes. This was definitely the most challenging time we ever experienced, as it literally felt like there were a million pieces to the assemble. Overall, I feel really good about how everything went. That said, there were a few things I wish we handled better. Tonight, we’re introducing the first in a series of updates aimed at improving upon the initial release of V3.0. These are based in large part on amazing feedback we received from our users. Thank you to everyone for giving us your feedback and caring so much about Clipmarks. We’ve got a lot more coming… Clip on! I just had to chime in here to say how excited I am to have this update done. During the course of preparing this update, we experimented with putting clipper's remarks right in with the clip content. I admit to being a bit skeptical at first, but once I saw them there, I was a total convert. It makes an incredible difference to seamlessly read right from the end of a clip into a clipper's thoughts about it. I instantly felt more connected to the people whose clips I was reading, and so many clips make more sense with the remarks right there in front of you. The upload's done and everything's looking pretty good, so I think I'll call it a night, but I definitely hope everyone enjoys thes... Lemme just echo skiff's feeling about this upload and pride from being part of such a great team. Happy holidays to all our clippers who stuck with us over this past week. -w Love the Navigation Changes. Much cleaner and user efficient. I love the second tier drop down for "My Clippers." My only complaint at the moment would be that you didn't provide the same drop-down for "My Page" as you did with "My Clippers" The drop-down is more ordered with this new update, BUT, and there are few of these... (1) The dropdown doesn't close when one moves out of its area, or clicks escape (the little x was doing it). (2) The activity on My clips disappeared, and that leads me to the big one: (3) This is even farther removed from the immediate feel and stream of info about My Clippers and My Clips - which was one of the best features of the older version. This was discussed at length and many clippers expressed what I feel very strongly, that the community sense has lost much with the disappearance of those two dynamic boxes on the right side of V2. I was hoping it will be compensated (as hinted by Erik G on ... I could "nit-pic" but I have to say "great job" overall. Looks great! Thanks. Very nice job! Now I hope you all can relax over the holidays and enjoy yourselves! I like it!! Happy me. The upgrade is great. If there weren't a few things to work out, it would mean nothing had changed. There are bugs, but most of them seem like ones that you need to run the program live to find. Of course there are things people miss or want back, but so far if anyone has had a problem they've been able to comment. Things are going to have to be tweaked till Moore's law is repealed, it's just a matter of making it progress rather than just change. Nothing will stop clipmarks being like a ticker tape of examples of the way people see the world, where we get to know ourselves, when we see ourselves in other people. I keep on writing about clipmarks, but that is just a name that represents the ... Very happy me!! At first I was a little lost, but it will just take a little time to figure out where things are. I still like the old way better, but in time I'm sure I'll make the change. It has a lot of new features that I think will be a plus, but getting to know where everything is will take time getting used too. Merry Christmas everyone! " We had tried to change it to a page that was more focused on getting our messaging across." I got it... you got it too... happy holidays, a lot of relax and joy. Old guy chimes in with a big I LIKE IT and if there are any problems I think they can wait till after the holidays. You guys deserve some time with your families and you are foolish if you put a web app above your loved ones. I officially grant you Christmas Vacation! The only things I want to see from you is some great fun clips. pokkets... Nothing will stop clipmarks being like a ticker tape of examples of the way people see the world, where we get to know ourselves, when we see ourselves in other people. That's a great sentiment. I totally agree with you. Regarding the My Clippers and My Clips activity feeds, we do have some really interesting ideas about how to offer that in ways that i think you'll all really like. I hope to have something ready to go before the week's over, but i'm not sure yet. We definitely don't think the header is the right place for them, so we took them out. Working to get as much done as possible... And thank you to everyone who suggests/insists that we relax a bit an... I'm finally used to it. I've been playing around with it more in Facebook and I really like it there. It would be even better once I get more of my "friends" (ha! the quotations made me laugh) to use it. The navigation is MUCH better. I was lost to begin with but that's not surprising either. Have a great Christmas you guys! Thanks Eric and Team for adding the Drop Down for "My Page" Much Appreciated. OK! I have been slowly working around what I miss and working with what is new on Clipmarks. Since I have blogged about Clipmarks, promoted and explained it on Twitter and Jaiku. After the holidays, or at your earliest convenience, I would really appreciate it if you would add me to Clipversity What makes clipmarks so special on the world wide web? aside from the realy cool and advanced features, for me it is the incredible openess of its makers - staff and clippers alike. it captures what I would like to see much more in the future and that includes an interesting mix of the personal and the public. This is definitely present in the update 'event'. I'll go as far as saying that something of the 'me and mine' is missing here, although there is a lot of character present. Thank you for that, and let's all of us have fantastic holidays! I'll go as far as saying that something of the 'me and mine' is missing hereThat's good, right? You bet Just got on and found the nice changes. Very pleased. Looking for to the real-time activity boxes, but you guys need a much-deserved rest. You guys are the best. Thank you for everything. Happy holidays, clippers! When I add a clipcast of one of my folder, to the blog, then it shows all of my clips and not clips gathered in that particular folder. How do I make only the clips of that particular folder show up in the clipcast? After working with the new Clipmarks for a while, and especially with the old look homepage back, a big thumbs-up from me! Great job! arifsali, if you go to your main ClipCast page (http://arifsali.clipmarks.com) and then select the specific ClipCast you want from the right side of the page, the page will refresh and the embed code on the bottom right should give you exactly what you're looking for. Here is what it does: The folder I select for my clipcast shows me all my proper clips in that folder, but the moment I change the view to blog sidebar (from the drop down list), it refreshes again and goes back to my complete clip section. I tried this several times and it does the same thing. I noticed that my URL stays the same http://getaclipcast.clipmarks.com/clipper/arifsali/clipcast/Photography/ So when I refresh my browser, it comes back to my proper folder clips, but then again when I select blog sidebar, it goes back to all of my clips. Yeah, I gotta say, not that I was unhappy before This satisfies my need to know what people are thinking about the news. It is much more rewarding than simply shouting my comments at the computer screen, which is what I did before I had clipmarks. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the necessary linkage of commentary and content is what I believe makes Clipmarks different, and more civilized than other petty and vicious forums for debate, such as, for instance, the United States Congress. I am satisified with the new changes having everything accesable on one page ,good job. just one tiny point, could the two new buttons for the views be narrowed down a bit more ie: be made as subtle as the rest of the site ,just it looks a bit too chunky to my aesthetic eye maybe just adjusting the writing font or making it more curved like other parts of the site and the how to clip etc. demos I think should be somewhere else out of the way but accesible. otherwise in terms of functionality its dead on I can't remember if I've already mentioned this, but, when I want to edit a clip, the Firefox window resizes. I think Firefox button can use another update since these changes. I used to be able to go directly to my Clips in the old button (in Classic view) but not anymore. btw n e chance of a clipmarks netvibes universe or is it on the forbes one already and would it be possible to make a clipmarks widget for mac from the uwa module on netvibes thses things could enlarge the clipmarks empire Oh, and a clipmarks button for Opera! Certainly looking forward to that! I thought I was on the wrong site when I jumped on this evening, Eric! |
