BartendingBear says: Grow a pair of balls, America. The people of Iran are putting us to shame. I would say the same to the UK, Europe and Australia and other so called democracys and republics "Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together" - Vesta M. Kelly I will always be proud to be an American. Always. I am beyond blessed to have been born in this Country and enjoyed it's benefits and prosperity. That doesn't mean I approve of the leadership of the American government. Great quote, Info. BTW, a belated welcome to our little corner of the 'net. Glad to have you. Clip on and have a great time. Have another beer, jat. You're missing the point of the clip completely. I would say the same to the UK, Europe and Australia and other so called democracys and republicsI can only speak for Scandinavia and our voting system and democracy works quite well here, therefore no need to protest usually. (We still use paper ballots too.) I'm not sure about the UK, but Greece, Italy and France don't put up with too much crap, either. Of course, we still have our rights and freedoms here and we don't get shot at, either. That, of course, makes it a bit easier. Election 2000. The only riot that occurred? The pretend one made up of paid republican staffers. Shameful. Rattle those pots and pans. The marching is beginning but we have been befuddled en masse for the last decade by lies and the fear factor. We did vote Howard out because even politicians, in this country, can't get away with lying to the people for more than ten years. Rudd has the economy on course but is totally into this flu thing. Says Australians don't want gay marriage, despite 60% of the people thinking it natural. Bit of a world stage groupie. In the US, an estimated 70% of the eligible population is registered to vote. In 2008, 63% of registered voters actually went to the polls, giving a combined percentage of 44% of the eligible population voting. In 2000, that was 51% (67% of 76%). SInce 1968, the voter tunout has been less than 60%, meaning that we are close to a situation in which a minority of eligible voters determine who's in our government (in 1996, it was - 49%). Close to half of all Americans just can't be bothered. I wonder how many teabaggers didn't bother last November. Well, it doesn't help that the Republicans are actively disenfranchising eligible voters among populations who don't tend to vote for them. you are so right. i wonder what it will take for americans to actually do something? My guess is that we will find out before the year is up. |
