BartendingBear says: Obviously you must click through to the source for any real value of his thoughts. And history has clearly shown how successful "planned economies" work! Another example of what the real agenda is... BTB at least you deserve kudos for your honesty! Although In modern terms this might mean sustainability Another important bit of wisdom Is be the change you want to see in the world "Be the change"...is that anything like "be the ball" that Chevy Chase alluded to in "Caddy Shack" ??? You mean my honesty in accepting the FACT that when Milwaukee was at it's strongest as a great place to live, we had a socialist mayor at the helm? You know, a mayor who believed in government service to the people of the city, and in planning to make the best of a great place, not in turning over to private interests to rape at will. Yeah, I believe in that. I'm curious, what's the difference between a socialist nation that where the leader is a corrupt power leader and a society where the industry is ruled by a wealthy elite that continue to pass laws that limit lower class citizens into a society of poorly educated drones? Socialism is by far the best governmental method. The only problem with it is the same problem that fails ALL government types - the greed of the rulers. It honestly sickens me when people disparage socialism like they truly know what it is. They have a cartoon understanding learned through the propaganda of the cold war. Yes there are elements of it that are dangerous if left unchecked, but any ruling system suffers that.... I "tweeted" this - http://twitter.com/egs/status/1257557868. The phrase "predatory phase of human development" really caught my attention. Predatory practices of humans are destroying the planet... at least making it unsuitable for human habitation. Any system of government that forces you (at the point of a gun I might add) to share the fruits of your labor with others is tyrannical and inefficient. I'm curious, what's the difference between a socialist nation that where the leader is a corrupt power leader and a society where the industry is ruled by a wealthy elite that continue to pass laws that limit lower class citizens into a society of poorly educated drones?@ Oortcloud, Would you care to elaborate on those "laws that limit lower class citizens into a society of poorly educated drones" Just curious if those "laws" applied to failures such as Bill Gates, Steven Jobs, Steve Wozinak, et al. Often the very smartest people believe in bad theories beyond their focus; Isaac Newton was a closet alchemist. The premise that any single person or committee, regardless of their expertise or level of intellect, can plan/influence an economy anticipating/reacting to changes is the most efficient model...well, that's exactly what the Fed has contributed to getting us where we are now. Well, if you don't give away a portion of your income in America, people will come and take all that you have. If you resist, then it will be taken at the point of a gun and call it tax evasion. The wealthy are in a position to either directly influence law or lobby through legal bribing what laws are passed that effect their industry. Because of that wealth and power they often have a larger voice than the rest of America - even when their actions, while beneficial to themselves, harm or are unfair to everyone else. Some examples of this are environmental issues in the energy industry, oversight in the FDA, banking system, airline safety, etc. Government spending on various industries suc... Frank Zeidler was the greatest mayor in the history of Milwaukee (Maier notwithstanding). Under capitalism, man exploits man; under socialism, it's the opposite. I would venture that the happy medium is somewhere in between. Good point gzuckier. I can agree with that gzuckier. Is there a real difference between a system in which the state owns business and a system in which business owns the state? 'Cause we've had the latter for at least the last eight years. Thanks for the article. I sent it to some friends, and one of them responded with this rebuttal. Even a tyranny can be successful if the overriding desire of the tyrant is not to destroy its own holdings in order to fulfill their lusts and desires. Literally any government can function effectively and successfully. It all depends on what someone deems "successful". For the sake of argument I say that successful is a strong nation where a significant portion of the people are happy. So communism can be just as successful as capitalism can be a failure. Had Hitler not taken part in the genocide of the Jewish people he was in a unique position to really lead Germany into a strong nation, but his own prejiduces and desires brought ruin. I guess I'm just reiterating that the most dangerou... The United States was founded on individual, not collective, rights. How exactly will each of you be affected by Obama's socialism. Will you pay more or less in taxes? There is no "Obama's socialism". It's just a catchy phrase that republicans like to throw around to arouse fear and suspicion. It's a last ditch effort to regain control through panic. HookEmHorns said:Indeed, and those in agreement with this clip wouldn't argue with you. However the mutation of those specified rights into right to health care, right to employment, right to become a homeowner, right to a college education, etc., does not "develop in him a sense of responsibility for his fellow-men" as intended by Einstein...only an entitlement mentality that divides. And individual rights include the right to enough food to eat, and shelter and heat, and a good education. Unfettered Capitalism is a failed system; or haven't people noticed the American Economy heading downhill fast. The most stable countries, the countries that are weathering this global recession the best are Social Democracies. We can't trust the Free Market alone to do what is best for the citizens of the nation. Substantive Government Regulation is a must, or else you end up with.... well, what we have now. |
