An intriguing challenge, especially to preachers. More on this clip at What's right about Jeremiah Wright

Luk 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Luk 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
Luk 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Luk 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
Luk 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
Luk 6:25 Woe unto you that are full ...

Luk 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Luk 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
Luk 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
Luk 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
Luk 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
Luk 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear you all think that Wright has some kind of God complex and believes himself exempt to the teachings of Christ, such as: Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

n2, that is a puzzling comment. Sounds like you're saying Wright rejects the teachings of Christ if he rejects the ones you mention and embraces the ones I mention. I thought the point was to embrace them all.

The example of Christ is plain: He sharply challenges abuse of power (in religion, government, and among the rich) but is unflinchingly kind to those who are poor or of disrespected groups.

I wonder if Wright is simply doing his best to follow Christ's example.

"I thought the point was to embrace them all."

Isn't that n2sooner's point?

Never said that Wright had a God complex, any more than any other Evangelical Televangelists that claims he has a direct line to God, can speak for him and knows the future down to the last detail even when the End will Come. Again, in a pastor throw down, GOPers loose.

Social justice vs. social injustice, truth vs. illogical theology, guess who wins?

Ambrose Bierce said it best:

Christian, n. One who believes that the new testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin.

I dreamed I stood upon a hill and, lo!
The godly multitudes walked to and fro
Beneath, in Sabbath garments fitly clad,
With pious mien, appropriately sad,
While all the church bells made a solemn din --
A fire-alarm to those who lived in sin.
Then saw I gazing thoughtfully below
With trranquil face upon that holy show
A tall, spare figure in a robe of white,
Whose eyes diffused a melancholy light.
"God keep you, ...

Exactly. He doesn't embrace them all. He is very much about vengeance. He loves to strike out at the rich white man yet he himself is building a million and a half dollar, 10,000+ sq foot, four bedroom retirement home. So is he really striking out at the rich, or just at the white man?

If he were about vengeance he'd be getting revenge. He is calling on God (not people) to execute justice.

Like you, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of mansions. But even if that represents "feet of clay," it doesn't make him a racist, a preacher of hate, or anti-American.

Most of us will never be a part of a church that will come close to his in terms of caring for the poor. He has embraced the very challenges of Christ you mention, and done so more admirably than all but a very few.

We still have to come back to his decades of Christian ministry, and their evidence of reconciliation and compassion. Sixty seconds of sound bites mustn't be allowed to outweigh a lifetime of service.
