It is on a field called the Champ de Mars (field of the god Mars). <H3>Why was it built?</H3> It was constructed for a World's Fair entitled the Exposition Universelle, which commemorated the anniversary of the French Revolution. <H3>How high is it?</H3> 300 meters or about 915 feet. The antenna is 24 meters high. <H3>Who was Gustave Eiffel?</H3> He was a French engineer of a family of German immigrants. His name was chosen after emigration to France because the French were having trouble with the family's original name, Boenickshausen.
