masbury says: LOL! Ever-fecund with fresh ideas, M offers cut in capital gains tax "aimed straight at the middle class." Never mind that households earning less than $50,000 earn only 2.5% of capital gains. And in this market, how much capital gains tax will even be paid for this year? I imagine Obama quietly praying, "Thank you, God." Yea -- he's FULL of new ideas... Full of something else. When will people leave ideology for pragmatism... Never if you are in the republican party. this country is in trouble. and if we are in trouble, the rest of the world is screwed. cutting the taxes of the those that PAY the taxes has been the most PRO-ggressive concept the world has ever seen. redistributing wealth has been the most RE-ggressive. and pleeeease dont tell me that ppl making over 250K arent already paying enough taxes...that is complete and absolute socialist class envy crap! those ppl have noooo relief at all from the obama plan. they have to pay for their own health care, their own retirement, their own children's education, their own mortgage, their own adult lives. we should not vote in any way to increase the taxes on those ppl earning below at least 500K.... A lot of people pay taxes, just in different brackets. That is what the progressive tax system is all about, you pay according to what you can afford. But if you cut taxes to much (and their been plenty of that), especially in a time of war, where the heck is the money going to come from? And oh btw, the last three Presidents have all raised taxes. Reagan did it after he cut them earlier in his first term (all those new fighter planes, tanks and nuclear powered submarines don't pay for themselves), so did Bush Sr. and Clinton and Clinton left office with a huge surplus. Yet Jr. cut taxes and wasted the surplus away. Supposedly it was Cheney who said "Deficits don't matter!" Fiscal responsability! clinton's balanced buget was due to the 1994 republican take over of congress...once again liberals get to bask in the fruits of true conservative victories. the hard choices. remember Newt's "contract with america" remeber all the main stream media screaming, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling...meeeaaannnn conservatives!" those meanies shut the government down and balanced the budget...and handed Clinton his ONLY legacy. and your correct about the cost of our military. i come from a military family, so i know the costs beyond mere dollars. but america spends more than anyone else on our military and subsequently the rest of the west gets to spend their income on lavish entitlement programs while relying mostly/soley on the american military to come to their aid when the shit hits the fan. and reagan should be applauded by europeans for all he has been able to afford them. btw, bush's terms in office were fret with some of the most incredable economic callamidies: 9/11/01 which impacted our economy. then there were a series of unimaginable natural disasters that also have impacted out economy. i honestly believe that if it wasnt FOR his tax cuts, this economy would have taken a nose dive much earlier than it has now. as far as Barry's & his fellow commies' progressive tax system: tellng a small business owner (250K) that they will need to pay more so that those making less than say 100K can recieve a check from the federal government is wrong. let's call it what it is...wealth redistribution. and it's no different that buying votes. Well, you're a true believer, steyn girl, I'll give you that. But conservatism is eating your lunch. There is no evidence that suggests that tax cuts to the rich increases employment, prosperity, or wealth (of anyone but themselves). The distance between the richest and the poorest has become greater in the last eight years than ever in my 55 year lifetime. The middle class has been losing ground all that time. The current crisis is anchored in Reagan's passion for deregulation - it wasn't necessary, and it wasn't an accident, and the Bush administration fought off states every time they tried to make their own locations safer for mortgage-holders and investors. In virtually every Repub... I also come from a military family. I lost an uncle in Korea, my fathered and my other uncles serves and two of my cousin have served tours in Iraq. BTW, I don't buy the "we spend so they don't have to". That might have passed the smell test during the Cold War but not today, not by a long shot. In fact the United States underwrites the military forces of entire nations (Colombia, Israel, Egypt, Mexico and a few others) and they don't do it for charity sake. In fact it is the opposite, it is a way to make these nations depended on the US (do as we say or we ground your new shiny toys). One of the reasons why Chavez buying Russian hardware angers the US is that it is not American hardware a... crats, but has failed to demonstrate economic improvement as a result of its policies. Trickle-down is an unsubstantiated Republican myth designed to keep millionaires' fortunes growing and keep middle class people passive while their income shrinks. Not to mention that they do everything in their power to lock the wealth on top and slow down or eliminate upward mobility except through goverment cronyism. Capitalism is a fine idea, but it has its limits, limits that we are seeing today. Philosophies, dogmas and doctrines are tools, we should use them, not the other way around. Right, capitalism is a fine idea, and we are all for it. But not dogmatic capitalism without limits on people taking advantage of others. Check out this study of the effect on the economy that taxation on the rich has: Does decreasing taxes on the top 1% stimulate the economy? MASBURY... you economic understanding is typical of those that want to socialize. do you happen to know the stats on the number of millionaire the united states has created, since say the 60's? i dont, but i have heard it is unfathomable! the wealth that is generated in this country is undeniable sir. and its mostly NEW money, bringing middle class ppl out of the middle class. and lets face it, that's REALLY what we in the middle class want outta life...the opportunity to excede one's own class. thru capitalism, this is possible. every where else, under every other economic sys it is NOT possible. its just a fact. and the stats will only backit up. as a conservative, i do not defend the size of our deficit under a republican admin. my fears lye in the fact that there is a shift in what our citizens are being taught to "expect" from their government or just outta life in general. i think the repub's have fallen prey to this shift because our ppl have fallen prey...that has been instigated by the left's defining the modern society thru being in control of our pitiful education sys among other things. but we arent taught the reality that every where the left has had power in governments, those governments are combersome, sluggish and continuelly under perform. and those ppl are not able to progress..essentially slaves, with "benefit... Mr. Puerto Rico... ""they" do everything in power to lock the wealth at top" that sounds like radical conspiracy theory to be honest...whose they? white man? and Locking wealth at the top...just how exactly does that happen...the locking of wealth at the top? all i know is what i personally experience and have the ability to see in my country and that is this: i began working at early teenage years. i went to college and have incurrd a hefty debt for that, but inturn, have seen my income steadily increase as with my abilities in my profession. and as i continue to invest in myself by continueing education & licenses my income will continue to increase! there is no hidden magic in ther... For example: Moving bank accounts of shore, and entire corporations, removing the "Death Tax"from the books to mention two of them. Moving the tax burden down the line while dodging taxes. As for your rise to the top, congratulations, but let me ask you a few questions: Why are your groceries so cheap or was your gasoline so low for so long? Do you wonder who prepares your meals every time you go to a restaurant? Did you have to support your entire family with what you earned while working as a teenager? Did you go to public school or private school? Who provided those loans that got you through college? No person is an island. While you are to be congratulated by your success one sh... As proof of what I a saying, just look at George Jr. bio. A man that has been a failure all his life and yet achieved "success" because of his families wealth and position. That is called gaming the system. Anti-establishment...hmm...Let see... Roll back the clock some 40 years...do you think you would have gotten the kind of education you have today? Or for that matter would anyone hire you for something other than the secretarial pool (I remember those, not with fond memories and I am a man)? Since we are talking about an election, how about a 100 or so years back, do you think that as a self made girl you would have had a chance to even vote? What about Rape Shield Laws? Next time you get behind the wheel and pull on that leather strap ask yourself how come your car and every other car in the road has one? Why? Because people fought the system, not to tear it down but to reform it. Not... 1. i'm not sure how to answer that...how bout you tell me where youre going with that one? 2. do i wonder? ah...i dont have to wonder i have worked in kitchens & served food out in the dining rooms of restaraunts all through my high school years. and i feel that it is a matter of one's choices that ultimetly keeps them working in those positions well past their high school days. while i worked after school & on weekends, many fellow coworkers that were older than me were immersed in a kinda sub-culture of partying late at night after their shifts ended then sleeping late into the following day, then getting up to go to work again and do it all over again. even as a young person i thought... i am afraid all this does sound too sanctimoniuos, and that is NOT how i mean to come off. i am your average everyday middle class gal who just wants the same opportunities that my parents had at earning a living. i work for a very nice liberal man. but he kills me! he was able to purchase a mooney aircraft two years ago, (more power to him!) while he has a personal water craft,a 32ft yacht and many many other wonderful toys to savor the flavor of life. but this funny man, complains about his healthcare cost increasing, he doesnt even pay for his staff's, we have personal savings accounts, hsa's. (which means we pay monthly premiums for high deductable insurance and then we can save up ... i think you mis understood me, bigtime! like you thought i was pro-anti-establishment. that is completely opposite of what i was saying. the western establishment has served humanity better than any other up to this point even with its flaws. remember "cultural confidence" these inventions you rattle off and principles of ordering ourselves are directly related to our liberalism, classical mind you, that have evolved from the core principles of judeo-christian values...our society is exceptional. but socialism, in terms of what the american left aggitates for (infactuated with the european left) is a dead end. we can see it right now! its sooo tempting go there, esp when our younger ge... moving banks off shore...becuase the tax policy is pro-bank. thats no different than picking up a homeless person and sticking a pen and voter registration form into their hand. then busing them to the vote to vote for social programs they dont even understand but those that run them make a livingoff it these programs. managing the poor is BIG business..there's alot at stake. are your for a death tax? i have never actaully heard a real live person for double paying on their income. income that was already taxed, and rather than spent it was saved and then once the person dies, which is a RIGHT, they estateis taxed a second time....is that what you are for? and i have not risen to the ... as for my girl power & gender impowerment, some progress is good, some aint so. thats silly to even mention. but for the record, i think the fact that slavery was abolished was a move in the right direction too, and the invention of toilet paper and maxi pads & seat belts and airplanes and boats and bubble gum...all good things. but here is the real point, women, under capitalsm are truelly the most powerful women in the world. period. even the women that arent executives, the ones that stay at home to raise socety's babys are impowered by this system. i just giggle lie a school girl when socialist men try to expolit gender issues the waythey expolit race...but conservative women & bro... i could do this all day long! its addictive. but man, i have killed some time. i gotta go. i'll look for your responses, if you have any. and if i dont respond, it aint that i agree, i am probably biting my tongue in agony but have to back away from this great discussion. i've never done this chatting stuff online before. my liberal boss will have to fire me if i keep this up day after day. one last thing, sorry. the tug and pull between government regulation and private industry is vital. it has to be. for governement to completely have its way with industry would be a disaster and visa-versa. so its about balance. i do not hear the word balance when i hear progressive leftist degrade private industry. i hear class warfare and aggiation for gigantic governement oversite into everything. i heard it from you yesterday. the struggle tween the two is the engine of progress. we have to have it. we both could name a series of government regulations that have caused harm to its ppl also. fannie mae & freddie mac. welfare, unreformed. i gotta go! |
