ratilfar says: From the article: "I don't see gains for the people of Iraq . . . and, oh, my God, so many wonderful young people, and these are the ones who felt they were really doing something, that's why they signed up," said poll respondent Sue Datta, 61, whose youngest son, an Army staff sergeant, was seriously wounded in Iraq last year and is scheduled to redeploy in 2009. "I pray to God that they did not die in vain, but I don't think our president is even sensitive at all to what it's like to have a child serving over there." Even though the Administration has used the military as a political backdrop this current study doesn't surprise me too much. The military is, in fact, made up of a cross section of the population. It is refreshing to see the Infotainment industry acknowledge what has been apparent to many for some time. Whether this will have any impact is debatable. In the short term, no.. But these things have lasting impact. nearly 6 out of 10? so almost 60 percent? If I took a random sample of people and half 60% disagree with Bush's policies, I would say that he has a 40% approval rating... which is better than his actual current approval rating.... I am always skeptical of statistics... Well that is consistent with the fact that Bush has had higher ratings among the military and their families. This is also a good rule-of-thumb gauge as to how loyal current service and reserve personnel would be if called to act against fellow citizens. Bush has everything else in place to declare himself President-for-Life, with his Military Commissions Act and the death of Habius Corpus. Considering the way Congress has acted to support this agenda, despite the ability to simply ignore his wishes, we may presume that the end-run around FISA was primarily aimed at gathering political, rather than national security information. Not that Bushco admits a difference. But the fact that they do confuse personal political survival and the freedom to loot our coffers with "national security" indicates who the hell should be on OUR enemies lists. What would be ironic is if the current missing CIA torture tape scandal and its clear message of obstructing justice manages to generate the action in Congress that it plainly deserves. Then for Bush the dots to his predecessor, Nixon, would be neatly laid out. |
