Interesting you should assert such on Independence Day, of all times, since the War for Southern Independence was fought on precisely the same principle as the Revolutionary War, i.e. to resist a tyrannical government. Lincoln was a tyrant, that trampled the Constitution, and overthrew it into a Federal Despotism, the foundation of a New Empire and global wars.

South Carolina, the first state to secede, appealed to this in their "Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union":
