Most Americans hope to die at home; very few do. Our system only rewards continued treatment. If I have a terminal disease, why do I have to spend my last days vomiting from chemotherapy among strangers? Healthcare reformers propose giving us the option of paying for anti-pain (palliative) care at home, allowing us to die a more natural death, and the wingnuts come out of the woodwood insisting Obama wants to kill old people. Shame on those who would spread such manipulative slander!

Lies, slander and propaganda is all they have. If they stuck to telling only the truth, the Republican bench would be deathly silent at all times.

davboz - stop your deceit - there is no government-sponsored end of life counseling. If you're smart, and you're sick, you'll talk with your doctor about whether you want to die at home or in the hospital, and whether you want extreme measures taken to extend life if you're comatose (for instance).

But there's no way under the current system for a doctor to be paid for taking the time to talk about it.

What's you're suggesting is a bald-faced lie designed to kill reform, and all who spread it should be ashamed.

The "end of life councilling" is just making sure that no one slips through the cracks like they do now. Many elderly people are being left entirely on their own, with no help to get around, or get things done, or even get treatment for what ails them. What the Healthcare Reform means by End of Life Councelling is making sure those people aren't forgotten; that every American is treated with respect and decency, right up to the end of their lives.

Of course, Davboz, if you're such a fan of old people dying in loneliness and misery, we'll be sure to tell congress to put in a special exception for you.
